How to prepare ready-to-feed formula

Updated 3 months ago

What is ready-to-feed formula?

Ready-to-feed (RTF) formula is pre-mixed liquid formula that requires no measuring, no mixing and no water. It comes in individual bottles or cartons and is ready to use straight away — making it ideal for travelling, night feeds or situations where preparing powdered formula is not practical.

RTF formula is more expensive per serving than powdered formula, but many parents keep a supply for convenience.

How to use ready-to-feed formula

  • Wash your hands before handling the bottle or carton
  • Shake the bottle gently before opening
  • Open just before use — do not open in advance and leave at room temperature
  • Serve at room temperature or slightly warmed — place the sealed bottle in a bowl of warm water for a few minutes. Never use a microwave, as it can create hot spots that may burn your baby’s mouth
  • Test the temperature by dropping a small amount on the inside of your wrist before feeding
  • Discard any unused formula within 2 hours of opening — do not save a partially used bottle for the next feed

Storing unopened ready-to-feed formula

  • Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight
  • Do not refrigerate unopened RTF formula unless stated on the packaging
  • Always check the expiry date before use
  • Once opened, refrigerate any unused portion immediately and use within 24 hours

Which ready-to-feed formulas do we carry?

My Organic Formula carries a selection of ready-to-feed formulas from HiPP — available in Stage PRE, Stage 1 and HA variants. RTF formula is particularly useful for the first days after birth, for hospital stays, or for travelling.
