Sensitive Formula

Updated a month ago

What is sensitive formula?

Sensitive formula is a category of specially formulated infant formulas designed for babies who experience digestive discomfort, allergic reactions, reflux, or other feeding challenges. These formulas are adjusted in protein structure, carbohydrate sources, or consistency to address specific needs — while still providing complete nutrition for healthy growth and development.

Every baby is different. If your baby shows signs of discomfort, it is always recommended to consult your paediatrician before switching to a sensitive formula.

Which type of sensitive formula is right for my baby?

There are three main types of sensitive formula available at My Organic Formula:

1. Hypoallergenic formula (HA)

For babies who are at risk of developing allergies or who show signs of sensitivity to cow’s milk proteins. The proteins in HA formula are broken down (hydrolysed) so the baby’s immune system is less likely to react to them. Note: HA formula is not suitable for babies with a diagnosed Cow’s Milk Protein Allergy (CMPA) — consult your paediatrician in that case.

2. Reduced lactose formula (Comfort)

For babies with mild digestive sensitivity, colic, gas or constipation. Comfort formulas contain partially hydrolysed proteins and a lower lactose content, which can help ease digestion and reduce feeding discomfort.

3. Anti-reflux formula (AR)

For babies who frequently spit up or experience reflux. Anti-reflux formulas are slightly thickened to help reduce regurgitation while maintaining proper nutrition. Always consult your healthcare provider if reflux symptoms are severe or persistent.

Which sensitive formula brands do we carry?

HiPP Hypoallergenic (HA)

HiPP Hypoallergenic (HA) Formula

HiPP HA formula is made from the same organic cow’s milk as the regular HiPP range, but with the proteins extensively hydrolysed to reduce the risk of allergic reactions. Available in Stage PRE, Stage 1 and Stage 2, in both German and Dutch versions. Also available in Ready to Feed format.

HiPP Comfort

HiPP Comfort Formula

HiPP Comfort is designed for babies with colic, gas, constipation or mild lactose sensitivity. It contains partially hydrolysed proteins and reduced lactose, with added prebiotics to support gut health. Made with organic skimmed milk from German farms. Available from birth onwards.

Kendamil Comfort

Kendamil Comfort Formula

Kendamil Comfort uses whole milk cream as its base — unlike most comfort formulas that use skimmed milk — giving it a naturally creamy texture and taste closer to breast milk. The proteins are partially hydrolysed and lactose is reduced to support easier digestion. Contains prebiotics for gut health. Available from birth to 12 months.

HiPP Anti-Reflux

HiPP Anti-Reflux Formula

HiPP Anti-Reflux formula is slightly thickened to help reduce regurgitation in babies who spit up frequently. It is designed to keep formula in the stomach for longer, reducing the discomfort associated with reflux. Available in both UK and German versions.

Which sensitive formula is right for my baby?

  • Risk of allergy or cow’s milk protein sensitivity — HiPP HA (extensively hydrolysed proteins)
  • Colic, gas or constipation — HiPP Comfort or Kendamil Comfort (reduced lactose, partially hydrolysed)
  • Frequent spit-up or reflux — HiPP Anti-Reflux (thickened formula)
  • Preference for whole milk base — Kendamil Comfort (creamier texture, closer to breast milk)

Always consult your paediatrician before switching to a sensitive formula, especially if your baby has been diagnosed with a specific condition.
