Holle A2 Cow Formula
Why choose Holle A2 formula?
Most cow milk contains a mix of A1 and A2 beta-casein. Holle A2 comes from herds that produce A2 protein only, which some babies find easier to digest. It's a middle ground for parents who want to stay with cow milk rather than move to goat, and it carries the same Demeter certification as the rest of the Holle range — a biodynamic standard that goes well beyond regular EU organic.
What is A2 beta-casein?
Beta-casein is one of the main proteins in milk, and it comes in two forms. A2 is the original form; A1 appeared later through a natural genetic change in some European breeds. Both are safe and nutritious, but they break down differently during digestion, and a number of parents report that A2-only milk sits more comfortably with their baby.
- A2 protein only — from specially selected herds.
- Demeter biodynamic organic — Holle's highest certification standard.
- Lactose-only in Stage 1 — no maltodextrin or starch in the first stage.
- No GMOs, hormones, antibiotics or added sugar.
Holle A2 is a nutritionally complete cow milk formula for healthy babies. It is not suitable for babies with a diagnosed cow's milk protein allergy (see the FAQ below).
Holle A2 formula stages
- Stage 1 — from birth (0–6 months). A complete first infant milk, on its own or alongside breastfeeding. Lactose is the only carbohydrate.
- Stage 2 — follow-on milk (6–10 months). Adjusted nutrition for babies who have started solids.
- Stage 3 — from 10 months. Continued nourishment alongside a varied diet.

How to switch to Holle A2
If you're moving from another formula, it usually helps to transition gradually over about a week, mixing in a little more Holle A2 with each feed so your baby's tummy can adjust. Every baby is different, so check with your paediatrician if you have any concerns.

Frequently asked questions
What does A2 mean in baby formula?
A2 refers to A2 beta-casein, one of the two main forms of protein in cow milk. Holle A2 uses milk from cows that produce the A2 form only, which some babies digest more comfortably.
Is Holle A2 organic?
Yes — Holle A2 is certified organic and carries the stricter Demeter biodynamic seal.
Can Holle A2 be given from birth?
Yes. Holle A2 Stage 1 is suitable from birth, with follow-on stages after.
Is A2 formula easier to digest?
Many parents find it is. A2 and A1 proteins break down differently during digestion, and A2-only milk is often reported to be gentler — though every baby is different.
Can I use Holle A2 if my baby has a cow's milk allergy?
No. A2 is still cow milk protein, so it is not suitable for babies with a diagnosed cow's milk protein allergy. Speak to your paediatrician about a hypoallergenic formula.
Where is Holle A2 formula made?
In Germany, using milk from Demeter-certified farms.
How many stages does Holle A2 have?
Three: Stage 1 from birth, Stage 2 from six months and Stage 3 from ten months.
Do you ship Holle A2 to Canada?
