About HiPP

HiPP is a family-owned German company that has been producing organic baby formula and food since 1932. The company began when Joseph Hipp, a German confectioner, developed a formula to feed his own children when his wife was unable to breastfeed. In 1956 — at a time when most farmers were embracing industrial agriculture and synthetic chemicals — HiPP made the decision to go 100% organic, and has maintained that commitment ever since.

Today HiPP is one of Europe’s most recognised baby formula brands, with over 60 years of experience in organic farming and a network of more than 6,000 certified organic family farms across Europe. The company carries out over 260 quality tests on each product — one of the most rigorous testing programmes of any formula brand.

Certifications

  • EU Organic — all HiPP formulas meet or exceed EU organic certification standards, ensuring they are free from GMOs, synthetic pesticides, growth hormones, antibiotics and artificial additives
  • HiPP Organic Seal — HiPP’s own quality mark that goes beyond EU requirements. The seal is personally endorsed by Stefan Hipp, the company’s managing director: “I vouch for this with my name.”
  • Halal — HiPP German formula is Halal certified. HiPP Dutch and UK formulas are not certified but are suitable for Halal diets, making the HiPP range a trusted choice for families in the Middle East and other Muslim-majority markets.

What makes HiPP distinctive

  • Probiotics from breast milk — HiPP Dutch and German formulas contain the probiotic strain L. fermentum hereditum®, originally cultured from real breast milk.
  • GOS prebiotics — galacto-oligosaccharides derived from lactose, also found in breast milk, to support healthy gut flora and immune development
  • Metafolin® — a bioavailable form of folate found in breast milk. The newest versions of HiPP Dutch include Metafolin® in place of synthetic folic acid
  • Over 260 quality tests per product — one of the most rigorous testing programmes of any formula brand

HiPP Dutch, German, UK, Goat and Pure — what is the difference?

All versions are manufactured in Germany to the same EU organic standard. The differences lie in ingredients, packaging and which stages are available:

HiPP Dutch

HiPP Dutch

The most popular HiPP range at My Organic Formula. Available in an 800g resealable tin — larger and better sealed than the German or UK packaging. HiPP Dutch is lactose-only across all stages — no starch added — making it the preferred choice for parents who want the simplest carbohydrate profile. Contains both prebiotics and probiotics. Available in cow milk (Stage PRE to Stage 4) and goat milk (Stage 1 to Stage 3).

HiPP German

HiPP German

Available in 600g cardboard boxes. HiPP German contains mild organic starch as a secondary carbohydrate from Stage 1 onwards — making it slightly creamier and more filling than the Dutch version. A good option for hungrier babies. Contains both prebiotics and probiotics. Available in Stage PRE through Stage 4.

HiPP UK

HiPP UK

Available in 800g boxes. HiPP UK is starch-free like the Dutch version, but does not contain probiotics — only prebiotics. Available in Stage 1 through Stage 3. A good option for parents familiar with UK market labelling.

HiPP Goat

HiPP Goat

HiPP Goat is a certified organic goat milk formula for babies who prefer an alternative to cow milk. Available in Dutch versions (Stage 1 and Stage 2). Goat milk contains smaller proteins and higher levels of natural oligosaccharides than cow milk, making it easier to digest for some babies. Like HiPP Dutch cow milk formula, HiPP Goat is starch-free and uses lactose as the only carbohydrate source.

HiPP Pure

HiPP Pure

HiPP Pure is a newer, stripped-back version of HiPP German formula made with organic whole milk instead of skimmed milk. It is completely palm oil free, starch-free, probiotic-free and maltodextrin-free, with lactose as the only carbohydrate. The whole milk base gives it a naturally creamy texture without the need for added vegetable oils. HiPP Pure is particularly suited to parents who want the simplest, cleanest possible ingredient list within the HiPP range. Available in Stage 1 (500g).

HiPP sensitive formulas

HiPP offers a range of sensitive formulas for babies with specific feeding needs — all produced to the same organic standard as the regular range:

  • HiPP HA (Hypoallergenic) — extensively hydrolysed proteins for babies at risk of allergy or with mild to moderate cow milk protein sensitivity. Available in Dutch and German versions
  • HiPP Comfort — reduced lactose and partially hydrolysed proteins for babies with colic, gas or mild digestive sensitivity
  • HiPP Anti-Reflux — slightly thickened with locust bean gum to reduce regurgitation in babies with reflux
