HiPP Hypoallergenic Stage 1 is designed for little ones from birth to six months and primarily for infants who are at risk of allergies or have shown signs of sensitivity to cow's milk proteins. Is this product right for my baby?
HiPP German HA Stage 1 is an infant formula with hydrolysed whey protein, suitable from birth. It is intended for babies with an increased risk of allergy — typically when a parent or sibling has eczema, asthma, hay fever or a food allergy — who need formula alongside or instead of breast milk. Speak to your doctor or midwife before choosing it.

How to prepare and store
Step 1:
Boil fresh drinking water and allow it to cool to approx. 40–50 °C.*
Step 2:
Pour the desired amount of boiled water (see feeding table) into a feeding bottle.
Step 3:
Measure the recommended amount of powder (see feeding table). Fill the scoop loosely and level it off. Add the powder to the water.
Step 4:
Close the bottle and shake vigorously several times.
Step 5:
Cool to drinking temperature (approx. 37 °C). Check the temperature.
*To avoid damaging the natural lactic acid cultures, do not prepare the formula with water that is too hot. The powder is subject to natural colour variations due to its raw materials.
1 level scoop = approx. 4.4 g. Standard preparation: 13.2 g powder + 90 ml water = 100 ml of ready-to-drink formula. One scoop of powder needs 30 ml of water. One pack makes 45 bottles of 100 ml. In the 1st–2nd week, follow the table unless your doctor recommends otherwise. From the 5th month you can start complementary food in consultation with your paediatrician or midwife; with every new, fully introduced complementary meal, one bottle feed should be dropped. Every baby is different: the amounts and number of feeds per day are guidelines only, and your baby does not have to finish the bottle. Use: from birth as the sole source of nutrition or to supplement breast milk; following breastfeeding or any other hydrolysed infant formula; like breast milk, it can be given on demand – as often and as much as your baby wants.
Care Instructions:
- Follow the instructions exactly; improper preparation and storage of the prepared formula can harm your baby's health, e.g. through the growth of undesirable germs
- Prepare the formula freshly before every meal and feed immediately; do not reuse leftovers
- Use only the enclosed measuring scoop
- Clean bottle, teat and ring thoroughly
- Do not heat the formula in the microwave (risk of scalding)
- Reseal the opened bag well after use, store dry at room temperature and use within 3 weeks
- HiPP HA 1 COMBIOTIK® must not be used if your baby already has a cow's milk protein allergy or if one is suspected
- Like breast milk, all infant formulas contain carbohydrates. Frequent or prolonged contact of the teeth with carbohydrate-containing liquids can lead to tooth decay. Do not let your child suck on the bottle continuously

What age is HiPP German HA Stage 1 for?
HiPP German HA Stage 1 is suitable from birth and can be used as your baby's only milk or alongside breastfeeding. From 6 months, you can move on to HiPP German HA Stage 2.
Who is HiPP German HA Stage 1 for?

Can HiPP German HA Stage 1 be used for a cow's milk protein allergy?
No. HiPP German HA Stage 1 must not be used if your baby has, or may have, a cow's milk protein allergy. Its protein is not broken down far enough for babies with this allergy, so it can still cause a reaction. Babies with a cow's milk protein allergy need an extensively hydrolysed or amino-acid-based formula, which your doctor can advise on.
Is HiPP German HA Stage 1 organic?
No. HiPP German HA Stage 1 is not certified organic. It is made by HiPP in Germany under the same EU rules for infant formula as every HiPP formula.
Is HiPP German HA Stage 1 gluten-free and soy-free?
Yes. HiPP German HA Stage 1 is gluten-free, wheat-free, soy-free and peanut-free.
Does HiPP German HA Stage 1 contain starch or maltodextrin?
No. Lactose is its only carbohydrate, and it contains no starch, maltodextrin or added sugars.
Does HiPP German HA Stage 1 contain DHA?
Yes. DHA is an omega-3 fatty acid that contributes to normal visual development in infants up to twelve months. HiPP German HA Stage 1 also contains ARA (omega-6), iron and vitamins A, C and D.
Does HiPP German HA Stage 1 contain probiotics?
Yes. HiPP German HA Stage 1 contains natural lactic acid cultures originally derived from breast milk, alongside prebiotic fibres (GOS).
How is HiPP German HA different from regular HiPP German formula?
The main difference is the protein. In HiPP German HA the whey protein is hydrolysed — broken into smaller pieces — while regular HiPP German uses intact milk protein. HiPP German HA is not organic, and every HA stage is lactose-only and starch-free, whereas most regular HiPP German stages contain organic starch.
What is the difference between HiPP German HA Pre and HA Stage 1?
Very little. Both are suitable from birth, lactose-only and starch-free, with the same hydrolysed whey protein, probiotics, GOS, DHA and ARA. Nutrient levels differ only slightly — HA Stage 1 has a little more iron (0.6 mg versus 0.5 mg per 100 ml). Older versions of HA Stage 1 contained starch, which is why some sources still describe it as more filling; the current recipe does not. Either can be used from birth until your baby moves on to HA Stage 2, and there is no need to switch from Pre to Stage 1 along the way.
How many bottles does one box of HiPP German HA Stage 1 make?
Each box contains 600 g of powder and makes approximately 4.6 litres (155 fl oz) of prepared formula — around 23 bottles of 200 ml. Follow the preparation instructions on the pack.
How many boxes of HiPP German HA Stage 1 do I need per month?
If formula is your baby's only milk, expect about 4 boxes in the first month, around 5 to 5.5 a month from two to four months, and about 6.5 a month from five months. Every baby is different, so treat this as a guide and follow the feeding chart on the pack.
Which stage comes after HiPP German HA Stage 1?
HiPP German HA Stage 2, from 6 months onwards.
