How to prepare and store

Step 1:

Wash hands and sterilise all equipment following the manufacturers' instructions.

Step 2:

Boil 500 ml of freshly run water and leave to cool for 45 minutes. Do not use artificially softened or repeatedly boiled water.

Step 3:

Measure the required amount of water into a sterilised bottle (referring to the feeding guide).

Step 4:

Using the scoop provided, add the correct number of scoops of powder. Level off using the scoop leveller. Do not press the powder.

Step 5:

Place the sterilised teat and cap on the bottle and roll between the palms for 5 seconds. Shake for 20 seconds, leave to stand for 7 minutes to thicken and then shake again.

Step 6:

Cool to drinking temperature (approx. 37 °C) by holding the bottle under cold running water, and feed immediately. ALWAYS test the temperature of the milk before feeding.

Opening: open the lid, slowly pull back the foil seal using the tab and safely dispose of it. Close the tin tightly after use.

1 scoop = approx. 4.3 g powder. Standard preparation: 12.9 g powder + 90 ml water = 100 ml prepared feed. One tin makes approx. 62 feeds of 100 ml. The feeding guide on the tin also lists the approximate weight of the baby: 3.3 kg (0–2 weeks), 3.8 kg (3–4 weeks), 4.6 kg (5–8 weeks), 5.35–6.7 kg (2–4 months), 7.2 kg (5 months), 7.6 kg (about 6 months). This table is a guide only; your baby should be fed on demand, particularly in the first few weeks, and may need more or less than the volumes stated. If you need more advice, please contact your healthcare professional.

Important notice: Breastfeeding is best for babies. HiPP Anti-Reflux Milk is a food for special medical purposes for the dietary management of reflux & regurgitation. It should only be used under medical supervision. Suitable as baby's sole source of nutrition from birth as well as from 6 months as part of a mixed diet. This product should not be used in conjunction with antacids or other feed thickeners. For enteral use only. Should you notice no improvement of your baby's symptoms within a few days, please consult your healthcare professional.

Care Instructions:

  • Please follow preparation and feeding instructions carefully; failure to do so may make your baby ill, as powdered milks are not sterile
  • HiPP Anti-Reflux Milk is a thickened formula – please use a single-hole, fast-flow teat
  • Only use the scoop provided in the pack
  • Feeds should not be made weaker or stronger than indicated and nothing else should be added
  • Always freshly prepare feeds and use immediately
  • For hygiene reasons, do not prepare in advance and throw away any unfinished feeds within 2 hours
  • Do not heat feeds in a microwave, hot spots may occur which could cause scalding
  • Never leave your baby alone during feeding
  • Store in a cool dry place, do not refrigerate
  • Use within 3 weeks of opening
  • Due to the presence of the natural thickener carob bean gum in this formula, you may notice changes to your baby's stool. This is perfectly normal
  • Introduce a cup or beaker as soon as possible to prevent prolonged/frequent contact of teeth with milk feeds as this may increase the risk of tooth decay

    What age is HiPP UK Anti-Reflux for?
    HiPP UK Anti-Reflux is suitable from birth as your baby's only milk, and from 6 months as part of a weaning diet. It is one formula for the whole first year, with no separate stages.
    Is HiPP UK Anti-Reflux right for my baby?
    HiPP UK Anti-Reflux is a food for special medical purposes, for the dietary management of frequent spitting up and regurgitation in babies. Some spitting up is normal in healthy babies and doesn't need a special formula, so speak to your doctor before switching. Do not use it if your baby has, or may have, a cow's milk protein allergy, and don't combine it with antacids or other feed thickeners unless your doctor advises it.
    Is HiPP UK Anti-Reflux organic?
    No. HiPP UK Anti-Reflux is not certified organic. It is made by HiPP in Germany under EU rules for special infant formulas.
    Is HiPP UK Anti-Reflux gluten-free and soy-free?
    Yes. HiPP UK Anti-Reflux is gluten-free, wheat-free, soy-free and peanut-free.
    Does HiPP UK Anti-Reflux contain starch or maltodextrin?
    No. It is thickened with locust bean gum (carob bean gum), and lactose is its only carbohydrate. The feed thickens after mixing, so follow the preparation instructions on the pack closely. A faster-flow teat often works better with the thicker milk, and softer stools are normal.
    Does HiPP UK Anti-Reflux contain DHA?
    Yes. DHA is an omega-3 fatty acid that contributes to normal visual development in infants up to twelve months. HiPP UK Anti-Reflux also contains ARA (omega-6), iron and vitamins A, C and D.
    Does HiPP UK Anti-Reflux contain probiotics?
    No. HiPP UK Anti-Reflux contains no lactic acid cultures and no prebiotic GOS; its fibre comes from the locust bean gum thickener.
    How is HiPP UK Anti-Reflux different from HiPP UK Comfort?
    Both are special formulas from birth, for use under medical supervision. HiPP UK Anti-Reflux is for babies who bring up milk often: it uses standard milk protein and is thickened with locust bean gum. HiPP UK Comfort is for wind, colic and constipation: its milk protein is partially broken down and it has reduced lactose. Your doctor can help you decide which suits your baby.
    How is HiPP UK Anti-Reflux different from HiPP German Anti-Reflux?
    Both are thickened with locust bean gum and use lactose as their only carbohydrate. HiPP German Anti-Reflux also contains natural lactic acid cultures, which the UK version does not. HiPP UK Anti-Reflux comes in an 800 g can with English packaging; HiPP German Anti-Reflux comes in a 600 g box.
    How many bottles does one can of HiPP UK Anti-Reflux make?
    Each can contains 800 g of powder and makes approximately 6.1 litres (205 fl oz) of prepared formula — around 30 bottles of 200 ml. Follow the preparation instructions on the pack.
    How many cans of HiPP UK Anti-Reflux do I need per month?
    If formula is your baby's only milk, expect about 3 cans in the first month, around 4 a month from two to four months, and about 5 a month from five months. Every baby is different, so treat this as a guide and follow the feeding chart on the pack.
    How long can my baby use HiPP UK Anti-Reflux?
    Only for as long as your doctor recommends and your baby needs it. Your doctor can advise when to move back to a standard formula.
    What should I do if HiPP UK Anti-Reflux doesn't help?
    If there is no improvement within a few days, go back to your doctor. Seek medical advice promptly if your baby vomits forcefully, has blood in their vomit or stool, refuses feeds or isn't gaining weight — these need assessment rather than a change of formula.

    The safest way to prepare formula is to make it fresh each time as needed. This is because formula that’s been sitting around has more time for harmful bacteria to grow, especially when kept at room temperature. However, if you need to prepare ahead of time, make sure to store in the refrigerator below 41° F/5° C.
    Can I bring prepared formula with me when I’m traveling?
    Yes, but make sure to store in a cold cooler during transport and don’t keep it for longer than two hours.
    How do I rewarm a refrigerated formula?
    Feeds can be rewarmed by placing the tightly sealed feed in a container of warm water, stirring and swirling occasionally to make sure it heats evenly.
